Almost Spring Style

Almost Spring Style Almost Spring Style zaradurrani.ca

Yes it’s almost spring in Vancouver. And my almost spring style sadly includes cozy sweaters and non bulky coats. I love calling Vancouver home. Whenever i go to any other part of the world and come back to Vancouver, I feel extra blessed to be living here. However, one of these winters I may have to take off to Mexico or Thailand. Spending my earlier years in South Asian countries and having a warmer, olive skin tone means i need Vitamin D and sun exposure 5 times more than normal. My kitchen cabinet is filled with supplements that i have started taking occasionally.

These photos were taken on a surprisingly warm day that was sandwiched between weeks of rain. Apparently we have had the most rain in Vancouver in 63 years. To offset the blues, i tend to wear brighter colors and stay away from black greys.

However, for sun exposure it is essential to wear sunscreen which i did before my matifying foundation from clinique. As you may be able to tell for an everyday look you will find me with minimal makeup. I┬álike to keep everything very natural specially when doing my own makeup. It’s a different story for fashion spreads.

Over time you will also learn about my love for thrifting and being practical about fashion. It can be easy to put style looks together without splurging and being eco-conscious.

Taking my Bike Out

FASHION & LIFESTYLE - Zara Durrani - April 13, 2017

Bike Day zaradurrani.ca Bike Day zaradurrani.ca

Spring means i’m taking my bike out of the storage. Yesterday was my first official bike day in Vancouver. First actually with the sun out. And boy was I excited. It actually got warm in Vancouver. We patiently wait all year for the elusive summer months. I purchased my bike second hand a few months back and since then i had been patiently waiting for a good day to take it out. My friend Alex joined me on the bike ride and we took some photos around my neighbourhood in Yaletown and biked across the seawall to have lunch in Granville Island.

If you’re a tourist visiting Vancouver, make your way to Granville Island. Grab some food and sit outside in the sun and listen to live music. Actually i felt like a tourist yesterday. You don’t realize the freedom you feel with the wind in the hair and sun on your face til you are riding on the seawall by the water. There is no better place on earth than Vancouver in the summer time i believe.

I’m planning on listening to my spotify playlist or audible and cruising by the seawall, I find it a great way to clear my head and get some perspective. Perfect stress releaser!

We took these shots outside Buzz Cafe, which also happens to be an amazing art gallery featuring works by local artists. The shop is run by a husband and wife team, whose smiling faces greet you each time you enter. A great place for a meeting or to go for writing and get inspired.

Coachella Style Guide

FASHION & LIFESTYLE - Zara Durrani - April 11, 2017

Coachelle Style Guide zaradurrani.ca

My Coachella Style Guide consists of comfortable foot wear as a number one priority. Coachella is around the corner and unfortunately I am not attending this year but I created a look that I would wear to the famous music festival.

Mixing style and comfort is important in hot California weather. And you never know who you could be bumping shoulders with. My next door neighbour Jorge Ramos who happens to be an international model scout, is there with his agency scouting models. Also Victoria Secret models along with social media stars among others make their way to this star studded music and arts festival.

This years acts that have me excited are Banks, Bon Iver, Father John Misty, The XX, among others.

I picked a flowy eye popping red dress with a floppy big hat to protect from the California desert sun. Yes in my twenties i used to frequent the beach with baby oil slathered all over. However, now in my 30s I have gone to the other extreme by wearing minimum SPF 35 on my face and yes a hat to protect the face. Currently i use Dr. DiMorelli’s sunscreen.
